Spechosting is a new web hosting company, launched in February 2010. They offer is quite broad given their age, and it starts with shared hosting and continues with virtual private servers and dedicated servers. They make a selling point out of not overselling, and given the allocations they offer, it may very well be true.

SpecHosting – The Web Host for Everyone

I recently decided to create a WordPress based site and faced the same question anyone creating a website faces, who do i have host my site? Many of the big names came to mind, GoDaddy, 1and1, etc. Having used 1and1 before i was fairly happy with them but i decided to look around.
I came across SpecHosting in a conversation on a popular webmaster site, webmaster-talk. The owner of the company, Tanner Bradley, is an active member and participant so we got talking. I decided to use SpecHosting as my web host and have not looked back since.
First off who can say that they have a personal relationship with the owner and operator of their web host? You dont think that when you call or email GoDaddy or 1and1 your going to have them patch you through to the CEO, do you? Its this personal investment on his behalf that sets the basis for the quality of service that SpecHosting offers.
Pro’s:
-Personal Service
-Extremely easy to use (CPanel)
-Fast Connection
-Affordable Pricing
-Great support
Con’s:
-They dont do my laundry for me
I made the mistake of getting my domain name from 1and1 instead of from SpecHosting just to save a few bucks a year…what a mistake. 1and1 purposely makes it difficult to use your domain name with another web host (they want you to host with them of course). Of course SpecHosting was easy to reach by email and took it in their own hands to get my domain name to point to my new web host. I was immediatly impressed with the level of customer service provided.
Im glad i didnt make the mistake of going with GoDaddy or 1and1 for hosting just to save a buck or 2 a month either. The web hosting packages offered by SpecHosting have competitve rates and offer you so many intangibles that i see now all the advantages of a small web host.
Having used 1and1 before, one of my biggest complaints was their proprietairy admin backend. It was organized in a hard to follow manner, with many options being burried under layers of links and pages.
Comparing CPanel that Spechosting uses to 1and1′s admin is like night and day. CPanel is so easy to use that within minutes i was setup and being productive instead of looking at FAQ’s and searching goole for answers. This alone would have been enough to warrant any small variation in pricing, but then…
I used an FTP client (Filezilla) to ftp into my new webhost and upload all my files. I was surprised at how fast this worked, without ever dropping my connection in the middle of transfers. With 1and1 it wasn’t uncommon for me to lose a connection to their server in the middle of an upload.
Once i got my site up and running i was amazed at the speed at which my pages loaded. It was almost impossible for me to tell the difference between running my site in WAMP and running it from SpecHosting’s server. What a treat.
To be honest, i cant say enough good things about SpecHosting, certainly not enough to do it justice. Originally i was only going to use them until my site “took off” and then switch to 1and1, but id be crazy to do that after seeing what SpecHosting has to offer. If your making your first site or even if your an experienced web designer looking for an alternative host, i highly recommend you lookup SpecHosting first.
